THE FUNDAMENTALS OF A TRUE LIBERAL
What does it mean to be a liberal? What are the most important fundamentals and concepts that a true liberal values? The word Liberal has its roots in the Latin word liber, which translates to “free”. It’s also the root of the word liberty or “the state of being free”. This is quite interesting because the word liberal originally was used to describe a person who is independent and free, and one not bound by strict rules. This is quite the opposite of government control or Marxism, speech censorship, control of media, biased one-sided education that teaches what to believe instead of how to think, and heavy taxation and regulation. So what exactly does it mean to be a liberal? Let’s list the most common tenets.
- An Open Mind – A true liberal will have an open mind and will be open to hearing alternative views. They will welcome different view points and will embrace those who think differently than they do. They are open to hearing others speak, and they will avoid the toxic cancel culture at all costs.
- Care for the Poor – A true liberal cares for the poor, the homeless, and those they feel are oppressed. They realize that government programs often make these situations worse and they will work together as a community and with the local churches to care for those in need. They will also take a long term view and recognize that a better economy and more job opportunities are the only proven ways to reduce poverty.
- Free Enterprise – A true liberal will embrace free enterprise and small business, while at the same time standing against big government and large monopolies. They have a commitment to limited government and laissez-faire economic policies.
- Stand Against Racism and Discrimination – A true liberal realizes that Color Doesn’t Matter, and they will treat everyone equally. They will not give special (condescending) attention or privilege to minority groups and they will not discriminate against either majority groups or minority groups. They will not segregate or divide people by identity groups, instead they will recognize that we are all equal and need to work together. They will not discriminate against people that have different religious beliefs and they will not try to force a different ideology on others.
- Freedom of Speech – A true liberal will allow business owners and individuals the freedom to express their own beliefs, without being ‘cancelled’ or ridiculed, and will fight to protect their first amendment rights. They are open to other’s beliefs and will not force their own views upon others.
- Individual Rights – A true liberal supports law and order to protect individuals from mob rule and oppression. They also believe in an unbiased court system that is as free as possible from corruption.
This doesn’t sound anything at all like what we’re seeing on the “Left”, but these are the true tenets of liberalism. In the past we had liberals and conservatives. They had differing views on how to get things done, but generally had the same goals in mind to continue making America the wonderful place that it is. Unfortunately, in our government we’ve seen more and more liberals become extreme ‘leftists’ that no longer have the core beliefs of a true liberal. It’s time for the extreme left to come back to the fundamentals of liberalism so we can have a balanced government of liberals and conservatives. Instead of dividing America with extreme left-wing government control and media bias that is destroying our Country, we need to unite with a balance of opposing views on how to get things done, but with the same end goals of building America, instead of tearing it down.
